Urban Planning is the art of making places. It is the design of spaces, landscapes and the establishment of the processes that make successful development possible. It is the creation of community identity. In contrast, architecture is the art of establishing a place to create an area taking into account humanistic and sociocultural factors. Thus, it appears that they are the same discipline or have the same functions. However, there are differences between architecture and urban planner.
The urban planner creates spaces for the coexistence and the development of economic, political, social and cultural aspects, which may be from streets and neighbourhoods to towns and cities. Also, the urban planner supervises regeneration projects taking into account all the contexts of the places and the people that use them. Furthermore, he/she takes into consideration environmental politics and motivates people to participate in the planning of their surroundings. On the other hand, the architect has objetives that go beyond the role of building refuge, its parameter are based on the privacy of every person, the expression and the support of the cosmological beliefs. Also he/she helps to establish the individual identity of the sector and microclimate control. Thus, different structures are available in varied weather conditions. Both architects and urban planners learn new skills and abilities with each project and consider the different needs of the even most demanding customers. However, when the combinations of the developments created by urban planners and architects don't meet the needs of the inhabitants, it can be described as impractical. Many of the mistakes made in planning are the projects done just to solve the problems of the city at the present time not thinking about the future. The urban planner's challenge is to create a place that will be used and enjoyed by a wide range of people for different purposes, not only now but in the coming years.
On the other hand, architects must strive to take into account the place and not just the design of a building to meet customer demands. Architecture has specific meanings based on beliefs and behaviors and orders that are placed in a particular location. This is where the urban planner begins working with his/her structured vision that can locate each building according to its purpose. This will mean that there are two additional careers where everyone performs his/her functions and shares information to achieve the objectives.
In terms of the architecture and urban planning of Caracas city , I think that it has beautiful structures, from the most elaborate and glamorous to the most simple, but with great potential for the development of the activities that take place there. These structures are strategically located throughout the city serving a specific function, giving a meaning to it. As urban planning is new stuff and various plans have made to reform the city, the execution of works is delayed. It has only been able to implement activities or urban programs that meet the needs of certain groups of residents in a short-term period. The problem is that the city is constantly growing and is more limited space to create new areas to enable the development of its inhabitants. We must build on what is done.
